Welcome to the
Midland County
(This website has no official connection to any organization in Midland County, Michigan)
Midland County boundaries were set off in 1831 from Saginaw County. Organization of the county occurred in 1850. However, no officers were elected until 1855. The original county boundaries included parts of what is now Bay, Isabella, Clare, Gladwin and Roscommon Counties. The Chippewa, Pine, Salt, Sturgeon, Tittabawassee and Tobacco Rivers flow through the county. The name of the county reflects its' proximity to the geographical center of the Lower Peninsula. The County seat is Midland City. The city is located at the confluence of the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers, called "The Forks". Midland County is noted for being the headquarters of the Dow Chemical Corporation, bromine production and for its' logging and lumbering history. |
